Anjali Purohit is passionate about sustainability and her brand, Studio Variously, is proof of that.

With the holidays looming, the Detroit Center for Design + Technology is dedicating this space to highlighting local business owners who make the holiday season bright. As creative director and founder of Studio Variously in Bloomfield Hills, Anjali Purohit works with third and fourth generation master artisans to create her textile-based and sustainable collections.

“Studio Variously explores minimal design elements by combining environmentally-friendly materials and ancient techniques,” Purohit said. “I seek beauty in slow-made textiles that bring people and their cultural stories together. I believe good design comes in small batches and is made responsibly.”

Studio Variously retails at more than 50 lifestyle stores in the United States, collaborates with established interior design studios and ships globally. Here’s how she’s preparing for the coming months at Studio Variously.
DCDT: How are you preparing for the 2020 holiday season?
AP: “Fulfilling orders of our stores, buyers and customers in the U.S. and internationally.”

DCDT: What items are you spotlighting for sale this season and why?
AP: “We rarely keep our items on sale as it is fairly priced and ethically made, which means we pay fair wages to our artisans and use only the most premium qualities of yarns and eco-friendly dyes. We have a small set of selected scarves on sale for a limited time only.”

DCDT: How are you adapting your work and making it accessible amid the pandemic?
AP: “Having an online presence surely helps, which is what I have further enabled by investing more in our own online shop and overall retail presence and partnerships.”

DCDT: Where are you personally shopping for gifts?
AP: “I shop for handmade gifts directly from artisans and small local shops when I am traveling. In Detroit, I like Corbé Ceramics, Pewabic Pottery and Bon Bon Bon.”
