Detroiter Miriam Pranschke can’t wait to welcome you to Boro, her consignment and resale shop in Detroit, this season. “I love seeing what our consignors bring in and learning the history behind the pieces and stories of when they were worn! Not only is our selection of products unique, beautiful and high-quality, but our consignors and customers are too!”

During the holiday season, the Detroit Center for Design + Technology aims to spotlight local makers, designers and the creative community. One of the talented entrepreneurs we’ve worked with in the past is Miriam Pranschke of Boro Resale. Find out what she’s up to while curating her signature mix of quality modern and vintage clothing and accessories.

DCDT: How are you preparing for the holiday season?
MP: “It has been exciting over the past 5 years or so to begin to see people choosing to buy some or all second-hand gifts, rather than new for holidays and celebrations. At Boro, we get special products in year-round, which we are super grateful for and fortunate to have!”

DCDT: What items are you spotlighting for sale this season and why?
MP: “We have had customers come in to purchase clothing pieces for their friends and family for gifts, which is great but can be tricky to do due to the nature of our product. We have a mix of clothing and eras, meaning sizes and fits can really range from what their tags may indicate! However, many of our customers have luck with our accessories collection of fun costume jewelry as well as hats and bags.”

DCDT: How are you adapting your work and making it accessible amid the pandemic?
MP: “We have fine-tuned our Instagram presence to showcase how we would style the pieces we get into the shop. We have gotten great feedback from our followers; they have found our stories in particular exciting to follow as well as inspiring! Boro also has an online shop now www.bororesale.com so we are stepping into the online world even more! Customers can purchase from our Instagram or online and choose curbside pick-up. We also have in-store shopping, by appointment or by walk-in based on the number of people currently in shop.”

DCDT: Where are you personally shopping for gifts?
MP: “I try to shop locally, and if not locally, with smaller businesses. I have luck at Nora, Hugh, Source Booksellers to name a few - as well as finding second-hand gifts from Lost and Found Vintage and Sally's in Royal Oak. I recommend others who want to shop second-hand particularly to check out Retro Rescuers, Flossy's Suitcase, Lowry Estate, Mama Coo's Boutique, and Vogue Vintage, again to name a few!”
